Case studies on light's effect on student performance and behavior

The Midwest Lighting Institute gave a presentation in July 2017 on the effect of light on student performance and behavior. The presentation covers:

  • The role of photoreceptors & ganglion cells

  • Non-visual photoreception

  • Published Studies prepared by Dr. Steven Lockley of Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital Boston

  • MLI case study results

They summarized their findings by noting that:

  • Rich blue light is needed in the classroom

  • Energy savings is more than 50%

  • Design light for the occupant and energy savings fall into place
